6th Consortium meeting in Milan

Another SEMACRET consortium meeting, this time hosted by our colleagues from Università degli Studi di Milano. One day and a half of multidisciplinary presentations and discussions marked a hallmark in the project, where members and partners are starting to wrap up their work and preparing their outputs.

For our usual field trip, our geophysicists partners wanted us to experience electromagnetic data acquisition and processing….so we did it in the middle of the Italian Alps near Bormio. The area includes a metamorphic basement from the Alpine Orogeny covered by glacial and post-glacial sediments which offers an excellent contrast in electromagnetic response. Our geophysical group in Milan developed a 3D EM inversion platform as a QGIS plug-in. We all took turns with the two sets of equipment and followed the data inversion in the afternoon using the new platform. It is a great learning exercise to frame and better understand how 3D EM inversion is modelled using the new platform, and in general how geophysical data is handled which we are all working with.
